The existing NEC Piazza links the Phase 1 Halls of the NEC Development (Exhibition Halls 1 to 5) completed in l975.
It provides the main public entrance, concourse, assorted retail and catering opportunities, advertising,
information, ticket sales, registration space, visitor flow and visitor holding areas to these Halls.
The Piazza has been the focus of a refurbishment programme to enable it to fulfil its role as a prime quality
customer-facing facility. The project involves carrying out works to improve the visitor experience and to preserve
and enhance the commercial viability of the venue, as well as creating new market opportunities. This
encompasses the whole site experience including arrival, transportation and direction around the site, catering, toilets etc.
The project objectives include for the redevelopment to take place with minimum disruption and inconvenience to NEC existing and future business and its customers, whilst the existing exhibition facilities remain in use. The construction programme has been planned to take full advantage of windows of opportunity, where the show
calendar is at its lightest.
The refurbishment focuses on the replacement and updating of all finishes with modifications to existing M&E installations as well as providing features to aid wayfinding and enhance the visitor experience. Additional value is created by demolition of outdated accommodation to make way for future catering and retail opportunity with ancillary accommodation of toilets, organisers offices, ticketing etc also being refurbished and brought up to date.
