Seymour Harris Architecture were appointed by Nurton Developments in 2006 to produce an innovative design submission to Warwickshire County Cricket Club for the comprehensive refurbishment and redevelopment of the Edgbaston Cricket Ground. The submission responded directly to the cricket clubs design brief, which aimed to provide world-class international stadium facilities, and a major leisure destination venue.
The main focus of the design proposals were the provision of new high quality stadium seating, new museum facilities, new changing facilities, and new banqueting facilities, all contained within a dynamic sweeping curved architectural form. It was suggested that this form would subsequently provide the cricket club with an immediately recognisable image and branding, whilst at the same time, providing the local environment with significantly more presence along the primary access routes.
Also included within the design proposals were the full master planning of the existing site are to include, retail, leisure and hotel environments, the analysis and re-allocation of car parking provisions, and improvement to visitor experience and way finding within the site.
